Lorem Ipsum Generator
Every designer and developer needs placeholder text at some point. Our Lorem Ipsum Generator creates realistic filler text for wireframes, mockups, prototypes, and layout testing. Choose between classic Lorem Ipsum — the industry-standard placeholder text that has been used in typesetting and publishing since the 1500s — or Hipster Ipsum, a playful alternative filled with trendy, modern vocabulary that adds personality to your mockups. Select anywhere from 1 to 20 paragraphs, hit Generate, and copy the output with a single click. The text mimics natural language patterns in terms of word length distribution and sentence structure, ensuring your layouts look realistic before real content is available.

What is a Lorem Ipsum Generator?
Placeholder text exists to solve a fundamental design problem: the content that will actually appear on a page is rarely available when the visual layout is being built. If designers use real copy too early, reviewers focus on the words rather than the layout — debating phrasing while ignoring alignment, spacing, and typographic hierarchy, which are the decisions that actually need feedback at that stage. Lorem Ipsum sidesteps this by filling space with text that has a natural distribution of short, medium, and long words, making line lengths and paragraph breaks look authentic without triggering any cognitive engagement with the content itself.
That said, Lorem Ipsum has clear limits. It should be replaced with real copy before usability testing, because how real users scan and read actual sentences is meaningfully different from how they react to Latin nonsense. It also should not appear in production — a surprising number of live websites have shipped with placeholder text still in place, undermining credibility immediately. For a broader look at developer and content workflow tools, visit our guide at https://usertools.app/guides/ai-tools-for-developers. Once your layout is approved and real copy arrives, the Word Counter helps you confirm length requirements are met, and Text Formatter cleans up any paste artifacts before the content goes live.

How it works
The generator works by assembling paragraphs from a curated word pool. In Classic mode, the word pool consists of Latin words drawn from the traditional Lorem Ipsum corpus — a scrambled passage originally derived from Cicero's 'De Finibus Bonorum et Malorum,' written in 45 BC. The first paragraph always begins with the famous 'Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet' opening to maintain the recognizable convention that designers expect.
In Hipster Ipsum mode, the word pool is replaced with modern English words and phrases associated with artisanal culture, craft beverages, indie music, and sustainable living. Sentences are constructed by randomly selecting words from the pool and assembling them into grammatically plausible sequences with varied sentence lengths (typically 8-15 words per sentence).
Each paragraph contains between 4 and 7 randomly determined sentences, creating natural-looking variation in paragraph length. The randomization ensures you get different text each time you generate, which is useful when you need multiple distinct blocks of placeholder content for different sections of a design. The output is plain text that can be pasted into any design tool, CMS, or code editor.
